Knoop Hardness Testing
KNOOP (HK) hardness was developed in 1939. The indenter used is a rhombic-based pyramidal diamond that produces an elongated diamond shaped indent.
KNOOP tests are mainly done at test forces from
The newer standards more accurately use the term micro indentation tests. The magnifications required to measure KNOOP indents dictate a highly polished test surface. To achieve this surface, the samples are usually mounted and metallurgical polished. Therefore, KNOOP is almost always a destructive test.
The testing standards for KNOOP test are defined in ASTM E384.
In SINOWON micro hardness testers, model MHV-1000ZK and SMHV-1000ZK can be installed HV indenter and HK indenters simultaneously. Please visit www.sinowon.com.cn for details.
