Hardness Testing of beryllium copper

Indenter hardness testing of beryllium copper is the most popular method. It is low cost, high speed, simple operation and requires the work-piece is small. Hardness testing used to control the quality of products, such as cold-working, solution annealing, quenching and harden.

Rockwell Testing

Rockwell Hardness testing includes more than 30 different methods according to loading force and indenter sharp. The most popular is Rockwell scales B and C, it usually does not test the beryllium copper, unless the thickness is more than 1mm, Scales B and C just for reference. It must apply Superficial Rockwell or Micro hardness to test the thin work-piece.

Superficial Rockwell Hardness testing uses Scales N and T, and load the testing force is 15kgf or 30kgf. The mini thickness of work-piece due to the materials for superficial Rockwell hardness tester, please check ASTM standard E18. As approximate value, use 30kgf for more than 0.6mm thickness work-piece, but 15kgf for 0.4mm thickness work-piece. For more thinness work-piece, we usually apply micro hardness testing.
